The countries of the region include the Republic of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republic of of North Macedonia, the Republic of Serbia, and the so-called \u201cRepublic of Kosovo\u201d. The study examines the key historical myths of the region\u2019s medieval history through an analysis of memory wars related to the Western Balkans\u2019 historical mythology and the interaction of global, regional, and national histories as they are represented in the school textbooks. The present study identifies common features and differences of curricula in the named countries, their distinct perceptions of world and regional histories, as well as the variations in temporal borders and key subjects of the Middle Ages.
