A.S. Bartenev\u2019s article \u00abScandinavia before the XI century\u00bb: on history of the preparation of the chapter for the \u00abWorld History\u00bb before World War II<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n

This paper focuses on two versions of the chapter by Alexei Sergeevich Bartenev (1906\u20131942) \u00abScandinavia before the 11th century\u00bb, which are stored in the fund of the Institute of History of the USSR Academy of Sciences (F. 1577). and in the personal fund of E.A. Kosminsky (F. 1514) in the Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The article was written by A.S. Bartenev for the multi-volume edition of World History early in 1939. The discussion of the report of Bartenev, read at a meeting of the General History Department of the Institute of History of the USSR Academy of
Sciences on April 16, 1939 with questions and comments from colleagues on the content also survived. Due to the available variants, it is possible to trace the process of the author\u2019s and\/or editor\u2019s work on the text in the key of the current ideological and methodological agenda. This paper is devoted to restoring the content of the report and comparing it with two versions of the chapter, attempts to clarify the period of their creation and analysis of the author\u2019s\/editor\u2019s corrections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
