In memory of Siegfried Wenzel (1928–2024)

This contribution is dedicated to the life and research of Siegfried Wenzel, a distinguished medievalist who passed away from pneumonia on September 27, 2024. The scholar is widely recognised for his significant contributions to the study of medieval sermons, a subject that has been given particular attention in this paper. Hence, the article examines his works on the analysis of the Artes Praedicandi, which are manuals for composing scholastic sermons. At the same time, this paper traces Siegfried Wenzel’s biography, in consideration of his personal life and his achievements within the academic community.
Keywords: artes praedicandi; in memoriam; sermon studies; Siegfried Wenzel.
