Remembering a friend. About Anton Vadimovich Sveshnikov (1968–2021)

The author shares with readers his memories of his friend, a famous Omsk historian, professor at the Department of General History at Omsk State University named after F.M. Dostoevsky. He describes the main personality traits of A.V. Sveshnikov: resoluteness, a penchant for leadership, reliability.
As a scientist, Sveshnikov was distinguished by a broad research outlook and an original approach to the problems being studied, which allowed him to become one of the pioneers of the historical and anthropological study of scientific schools. The author notes an important direction in Sveshnikov’s research, namely the study of the role of conflicts in the academic environment of medieval historians. The memoirs describe the experience of joint work, during which theoretical issues of conflictology were discussed and seminars were analyzed as a means of forming professional historians. The memoirist does not lose sight of the details of «istoriograficheskii byt» (historians’ mode of life), openly talking about the behind-the-scenes aspects of scientific conferences.

Keywords: Anton V. Sveshnikov; conflictology; medieval studies; history of historical writing; scholarly communication.
