Medieval Studies in the Belarusian State University: History and Modernity
The article deals with the history of medieval studies in the Belarusian State University. History of the Middle Ages has been studied at the Pedagogical Faculty (1921–1931) and from 1934 — at the History Department of BSU. Professor Anton Jasiński was the founder of medieval studies during the 1920s. He specialized on the medieval history of Slavic states. Belarusian school of medieval studies was created by academician Vladimir Pertsev who concentrated on the problems of German history. Now the main centre of medieval studies in Republic of Belarus is the Department of Ancient and Medieval History of BSU. Its staff investigates the history of barbarian kingdoms in Western Europe, the history of mentalities and the history of everyday life.
